How to help
In June 2018, eight of our Keystone members will be attending the 51st Annual National Keystone Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, on the campus of Geogia Southern University for 3 days. These members had to obtain good grades all year long, serve their community and the Club and help fundraise money for special events. This Conference will teach them how to make more of an impact in their community, their Club and inspire them to activate their legacy. Activating their legacy means: How will you leave your impact in this world and what difference can you make. They will have the opportunity to meet and network with Boys & Girls Clubs teens from across the United States and overseas. They will also be able to collborate and have open discussions on real world problems. This conference is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We will have the chance to visit the beautiful City of Atlanta, Georgia as well as Georgia Southern University and experience campus life. Overall, we will never forget the memories that we make at the 51st Annual National Keystone Conference. –Alexis L., Keystone Member age 17
Youth of the Year
Seventeen year-old La Habra High School Senior Jeffrey Perez has been named the “Thomas A. Sauer” Memorial Youth of the Year award winner for the Boys & Girls Clubs of La Habra, which is the highest honor any Boys & Girls Club member can achieve.
The award was announced and presented to Jeffrey on Saturday January 27th at a carnival themed luncheon ceremony which was held at the La Habra Boys & Girls Club's Jenson Gymnasium. Well over 250 parents, members, and guests were in attendance. The Club is proud of Jeffrey, not just for earning the award, but how much he has accomplished during her 11 years as a member and all of the hard work that he puts into his Club. Jeffrey attends the Boys & Girls Clubs daily and is always looking to make a positive impact on our younger members.
For earning the La Habra Youth of the Year honor, Jeffrey will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Jeffrey has been a Keystone Club member for 4 years and holds a 3.8 gpa. After high school Jeffrey plans to attend either San Jose State or Sacramento State.
Jr. Youth of the Year
This award is a special award, as it is the 1st year of it. With so many quality younger members at our club, we feel this award is long overdue. This award recipient is a 6th grader at Washington Middle School and is the perfect club member. Assists staff, other members and participates in nearly all games, activities & tournaments. She always participates in art contests, volunteer projects, just about anything that she can get her hands in. This young lady is a 4 year member of the Club and always greets everyone with a smile daily. She definitely has a bright future in any path she chooses. It is with great honor that we present the 2017 Jr. Youth of the Year award to Marlyn Pimentel.
